Kokoro was set up by twin sisters Lesley Heath and Karen Powell.

Karen and Lesley are both passionate about working with individuals and businesses to improve performance to be the best they can be. They specialise in leadership programmes, and risk management consultancy. Offering solutions that support the conventional, looking at mindset, limiting labels and why people make the choices they make. This insight is then used to develop solutions offering sustainable change in both individuals and organisations.

Whilst Kokoro is a relatively young company, the founding directors have a wealth of experience, which is supported and reinforced, with their own team and team of associates.

Lesley has expert level experience and a top class record of achievement in all areas of safety. She puts particular emphasis on making safety part of what a business does everyday.esley is all too aware that just because words are on a page, and people are well aware of procedure, policy and protocol, it does not necessarily change the outcome. The role of individuals choices, decisions and behaviours is becoming ever more critical in her aim to reduce accidents and incidents. The “human factor” is attributable for the majority of incidents. We place overreliance on technology resulting in expectation, habituation errors or distraction.

Lesley specialises in safety behaviour and culture, recognising and understanding that a step change is required to challenge the increasing behavioural elements that can be used to support the conventional approaches to safety. 

Lesley has already worked with rail operators to introduce bold and innovative programmes for safe decision making to address the mindsets and limiting beliefs that drive individual choices.

With her unique experience, she is well placed to understand safety issues within the railways and beyond. Lesley has an extensive network across the rail and infrastructure industries.

 

Karen has operated at Board level in Human Resources, Organisational Development and Learning and Development within the private retail sector (Walmart/Asda) and public sector (Royal Mail) working with a wide range of organisational cultures.

Fifteen years at Asda saw Karen progress from the graduate programme to Head of OD and business change overseeing large-scale, big budget, change programmes.

At Royal Mail she was Head of Learning and Development at one of the UK’s largest employers driving capability to deliver a new culture of L&D.

Karen is an inspiring dynamic individual who excels in working with organisations who are transforming their business. She is committed to working in partnership to deliver business and personal success through enabling people to realise their potential through changing mindsets.

She specialises in organsational development and business transformation through focusing on understanding why people make the choices and decisions they do. Her approach is to understand the real root cause behind people’s behaviour thus enabling accelerated transformational change within an individual.

Karen is down to earth, empathetic and challenging. She measures her success through clear ROI targets. She works closely with client sponsors to agree success measures and evaluation processes.

Karen is a graduate, FCIPD qualified.  She has a post graduate qualification in Coaching and is a member of the EMCC. She is licenced to use Savile and Holdsworth Psychometric tests and has delivered Blanchard leadership programmes. She is also trained in counselling skills and NLP and Archetype coaching.

Lesley’s and Karen’s combined skills give a unique approach to safety leadership.
